Navarrsotillo is synonymous of tradition, artisan agriculture and hard work; resulting in high quality wines. A small family farm of approximately 60 hectare (150 acres) located in La Rioja/Navarra region in Northern Spain.
It began in 1995 when brothers Andrés and Ramón Serrano, and their cousin Luis Ruiz started converting the family vineyards, fields and orchards to organic farming standards. Their first wine was released two years later. Since then, they have focused all efforts on producing quality organic wines with a commitment to caring for the earth.
The vineyards are divided between several municipalities, Calahorra, Andosilla and San Adrian. This is an area called the “Rioja Mediterranean” with cold winters, mild and rainy springs and autumns, and hot dry summers. The grounds have different textures with limestone, sand, clay and gravel. This all gives the right combination of climate and “terroir” featuring the location that favours elegant wines with soft tannins.
The winery itself is a state-of-the art facility built in 1998. All equipment uses leading-edge technology, stainless steel vats and piping, temperature controlled rooms and laboratories, and an aging cellar with American and French oak barrels. The vineyards and the wine making are all certified organic by the Controlling Body for Ecological Agriculture of La Rioja.
